16 Year Old Indian Defeats World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen

Magnus Carlsen was defeated by a 16-year-old in the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour’s Airthings Masters tournament. Praggnanandhaa, widely regarded as a future title contender, defeated the five-time World Champion in 39 moves after Carlsen emerged to shamble.

As a result, Pragg became the youngest player to defeat Carlsen since he was crowned World Champion in 2013. Pragg is also only the third Indian grandmaster to defeat the Norwegian Carlsen, following Vishy Anand and Pentala Harikrishna.

Who is Praggnanandhaa?

Praggnanandhaa won a Major Youth Chess Championships Under-8 title in 2013, earning him the FIDE Master title at the age of seven. In 2015, he won the Under-10 title. Praggnanandhaa became the world’s youngest international master in 2016, at the age of ten years, ten months, and nineteen days. In November 2017, he earned his first grandmaster norm by finishing fourth with 8 points at the World Junior Chess Championship.

It was his “I can’t believe it” moment, the one that had always been a part of his wildest fantasy. Carlsen, the undisputed chess emperor, a bonafide GOAT, and the game’s marketing face, was always his idol. “Defeating him once in a chess championship was my ultimate dream,” he told to Indian Express .He also said “ Carlsen  has a solution for even the most difficult  problem in chess,”

Congratulations pour in for the Little Chess Master 

Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary batsman, congratulated 16-year-old Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa on his victory over world champion Magnus Carlsen in the eighth round of the Airthings Masters, an online rapid chess competition, on Monday.

“What a fantastic feeling it must be for Pragg. All of 16, and to have beaten the experienced and decorated Magnus Carlsen, and to have done so while playing black, is awe-inspiring! Best wishes for a long and prosperous chess career. You have made India proud, “Tendulkar posted a tweet.

Similarly many other celebrities congratulated the little chess master for his successful future.
