22 YouTube Channels Blocked for Spreading Misinformation—India

22 YouTube channels have been blocked by the government for promoting false information about national security, foreign policy, and public order. Under the IT Rules of 2021, eighteen Indian YouTube news channels have been blocked for the first time. In a recent decision by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, four Pakistani YouTube news channels were also disabled.

Government’s Statement

Several YouTube channels were utilised to spread fake news on the Indian Armed Forces, Jammu and Kashmir, and other topics. Certain anti-India content posted from various social media accounts run in a coordinated manner from Pakistan was also ordered to be blocked.
A large amount of fake content relating to the ongoing situation in Ukraine was uploaded by these Indian YouTube-based channels, with the intent of compromising India’s foreign ties with other nations
According to the ministry, the restricted YouTube channels had a combined audience of over 260 crore people, and they were propagating fake news and organised disinformation on social media about topics that were sensitive in terms of national security, India’s foreign relations, and public order.
So with the power under IT Rules Act 2021 these 22 youtube channels are now banned in India.
