News has come from Toronto, Canada, here on Saturday, March 13, that five Indian students passed away in a road accident. This information was given by Ajay Bisaria, High Commissioner of India to Canada. He also said that the Consulate General of India team in Toronto is in touch with the friends of the victims for assistance.
All the students were in a van, according to the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police. Around 3:45 am, a tractor-trailer rammed into his van. Five people in the van were declared dead on the spot.
The students who died in the road accident have been identified as 24-year-old Harpreet Singh, 21-year-old Jaspinder Singh, 22-year-old Karanpal Singh, 23-year-old Mohit Chauhan and 23-year-old Pawan Kumar. Police said all five were studying in Montreal and the Greater Toronto Area.
Two other passengers in the van were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured. An investigation is underway, no charges have been filed yet. A line of the highway was closed after the brutal accident. But it has since been reopened.

India’s High Commissioner to Canada Ajay Bisaria termed the incident as a heart-wrenching tragedy. He tweeted, ‘Heartbreaking tragedy in Canada. Five Indian students were killed in a vehicle accident near Toronto on Saturday. Two others are in the hospital. Deepest condolences to the families of the victims. We are in touch with the friends of the victims for any assistance.
S Jaishankar, the Minister of External Affairs, expressed his condolences for the deaths of Indian students in the tragedy. “We grieve the deaths of five Indian students in Canada. Heartfelt condolences to their loved ones. Please pray for those who have been injured. All required support and assistance will be provided by @IndiainToronto “
