The city has its own fruit processing division called Nagpur Orange Grower’s Association (NOGA). The division has an installed capacity of 4950 Metric ton of fruits per annum. The city is an exporter of oranges to various parts of the world.
Nagpur is Home to Many Popular Companies in India.
Haldiram’s, the most popular namkeen producer in India started its first full production unit in the city itself. It was the unit from where Haldiram’s actually started to diversify its business. The already popular Namkeen(Bhujia) manufacturer introduced a variety of sweets, savouries and beverages to the market. And all this led to Haldiram’s transforming into a major food brand in India.
Nagpur is also home to Ice Cream manufacturer, Dinshaw’s. Ayurvedic products manufacturer Vicco & Baidyanath also come from Nagpur itself.
The city holds most of the Gold Reserves of the RBI

This one is the most fascinating fact about the city in my opinion. Nagpur RBI office holds the major part of the RBI’s gold stored as foreign reserves. Britain holds the remaining part of India’s gold reserves. In 1991, the then government sent the gold to Great Britain to avert an economic crisis.
Interesting History about the name.
The name Nagpur comes from the river Nag that flows through the city. The city was also known as Fanindrapura. The name Fanindrapura comes from the Marathi word Fan. Fan actually means the hood of a cobra. Dr B.R Ambedkar once claimed that both the city and the river are named after Nags(cobras), who were the opponents of the Indo-Aryans.
It is one of fastest-growing cities in the country

Another one of the Amazing Facts About Nagpur is that it has the highest per capita GDP in central India. And according to an Oxford’s Economics Report, the city is projected to be the fifth fastest growing city in the world in the next fifteen years. It is also one of the top ten cities in India elected for the Smart City project. Major IT companies including TCS, Tech Mahindra, HCL have their operations running in various IT parks built around the city.
