The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which commemorates 75 years of freedom, is honouring the 73rd Republic Day of our glorious country. This year’s Republic Day parade celebrates India’s journey of 75 years by exhibiting the country’s military prowess, cultural unity and diversity, and various other government’s initiatives.
Here are the five interesting things that happened today on the 73rd Republic day Celebration :
Republic Day Parade Start Timing changed to 10:30

In the midst of chill weather in Rajghat, the Republic Day procession began at around 10;30. The national flag unfurled as it is the customary, followed by the National Anthem and a thunderous 21-gun salute from the Ceremonial Battery of the 871 Field Regiment.Due to Covid protocols in the place,the limited number of audience allowed and conducted the program by following all the medical protocols.

At the ceremony, the Indian Air Force flew over seventy five planes in a flyover to demonstrate the country’s military might. Rajnath Singh [ defence Minister]showed videos from the cockpit as helicopters and planes flew over Rajpath. For viewers at the event, the Centre built ten big LED screens, five on each side of Rajpath.
Virat Horse Retirement
Virat [ Horse] received the Chief of the Army Staff Commendation during the army day celebrations.It is the first horse to be honoured for its outstanding service and ability. Following the conclusion of the Republic Day parade, the President Body Guard announced Virat’s retirement from the service.The horse has participated in Republic day events 13 times with success. It has the distinction of escorting prior Indian Presidents, as well as current President Ram Nath Kovind, in ceremonial marches with grace and dignity.The President and Prime Minister themselves went near the horse and pampered it as a respect for the service it had done for the nation.
Announcement of Defence Honours
President Ramnath Kovind also announced the 384 gallantry and other defence honours to armed services members and others on the eve of Republic Day celebrations.Yesterday on 25th January he Padma awards were also declared by the Centre. This year, the President granted 128 Padma awards, including two pair cases in which the award counted as one. There are four Padma Vibhushan awards, 17 Padma Bhushan awards, and 107 Padma Shri awards on the list.
First Female Rafale Jet Pilot
Shivangi Singh, India’s first female pilot to fly a Rafale fighter jet, was also part of the Indian Air Force tableau at Republic Day celebration.She is is the second female fighter jet pilot to serve in the IAF, following Bhawna Kanth, the first female fighter jet pilot to be a part of Indian Air force tableau ceremony.
