This day has been set aside by the nations in honour of the refugees who were compelled to leave their homes. To foster compassion and rational thought for refugees in new nations, this day is celebrated. According to the United Nations (UN), more than 13 million people have left their homes since Russia invaded Ukraine.

A person who cannot or will not return to their country of origin due to persecution due to their ethnicity, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political viewpoint is considered a refugee.

History of World Refugee Day

The United Nations voted to observe June 20 as World Refugee Day in December 2000. Since that time, June 20 has been designated as World Refugee Day. This group aims to aid refugees all across the world.
